Credit Cards
Are your credit cards a friend or foe? Depends on how you use them.
Credit Cards Aren't All Bad
Since this site is basically about debt relief, you probably didn't expect us to have many good things to say about credit cards, right? But when you use them wisely, your credit cards can be your friend, not your enemy. Here are good ways to use credit cards:
- To book airfare
- To rent cars
- To reserve hotel rooms
- To book cruises and use as your onboard credit
- To get extra warranties and purchase protection
- Emergency car repairs
- To get store coupons
You can even use your credit cards to buy your everyday necessities like gas and groceries. If you use your credit cards for everything you buy, it's a great way to track your spending. And if you're very disciplined, this is a good method for you. After all, writing checks for everything or keeping track of every debit card purchase can make balancing your checkbook a hairy ordeal each month. By putting everything on credit, then paying it off IN FULL each month, you'll cut down on the number of checks and debits you need to keep track of.
Again, the key it so pay your credit card off in full each month. And since we tend to spend 30% more on items when we use our credit cards, you'll really have to watch yourself in that area as well. Don't spend frivolously. Otherwise, you could wind up deep in credit card debt, and nobody wants that because credit card debt is the hardest to get out of. Use your credit cards, but don't let them use you.
